Uniontown, P.A. - On Tuesday, March 4, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced the 2013-14 women’s basketball Division I and II All-American teams.  The USCAA honors 10 First Team, 10 Second Team, and 10 Honorable Mention student-athletes in each of the two divisions of women’s basketball.  Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College freshman Ja’Breena Gardner was named to the All-American Second Team in Division I.

Receiving All-American honors for the first time in her career, Gardner has excelled on the basketball court this season.  Gardner topped the USCAA Division I in steals with 4.4 per game while averaging 22.9 minutes played.  In 24 games this season, Gardner led the Pomeroys in total points scored (345), points per game (14.4), assists (62), and steals (106).  Her 106 steals broke the single season school record.

The Indianapolis, Ind. native was honored earlier during the season when she was named the USCAA Player of the Week on Feb. 4.

“I believe this year was just a sample of what Ja’Breena is truly capable of,” said head coach Deanna Bradley.  “This is an amazing honor for her, especially as a freshman, and one I know she is very humbled to receive.  We are all so very proud of her.”

USCAA All-Academic awards were also announced on Tuesday.  Senior Hailee Rittinger and sophomore Mikayla Metheny were among those USCAA student-athletes named to the academic list.  Rittinger earned the honor for the second straight year, while Metheny added her name to the distinguished list for the first time in her career.
