Pomeroys come up short against UC-Clermont, 75-67

Feb. 2, 2013

The Pomeroy basketball team ended their six game road trip with a 75-67 defeat to the Lady Cougars of the University of Cincinnati-Clermont on Friday evening.  This matchup was the second between the two schools this season.  The Pomeroys had won the previous meeting (104-91) on Jan. 5.

Trailing 45-31 at halftime, SMWC was able to cut into the lead and outscored UC-Clermont by six in the second half (36-30).  The eight point deficit was the closest the Pomeroys would get as the final buzzer sounded.   The loss ties the longest losing streak of the season, which currently sits at six games.

Whitney Allen and Brandi McDaniel led the Pomeroys with 17 points apiece.  Allen shot 6-of-13 from the field and made 2-of-5 from beyond the arc.  McDaniel secured a double-double with her team-high 10 rebounds.  Chelsea Weaver finished in double figures with 11 points and Sierra Lopez was one rebound shy of a double-double, chipping in a 10 point and nine rebound effort off the bench.

Both SMWC and UC-Clermont did not shoot particularly well from the field, with both teams shooting under 38% for the game.  The Lady Cougars were also able to win the battle of the boards (60-50) and committed four fewer turnovers (23-19).

UC-Clermont improves their record to 16-15 while the Pomeroys drop to 5-17 on the season.

The Pomeroys return back to the comfortable confines of the Clinton Recreation Center in Clinton, Ind. with a five-game home stand to finish up the season.  The next game will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 5 against Brescia University at 7 p.m.  The Pomeroys last played Brescia back on Jan. 19 in a 100-74 loss.
