Pomeroys defeat IU-Southeast, win second straight game

Dec. 21, 2012

For the first time this season, the Pomeroy basketball team put together back-to-back wins after their 93-83 home victory over IU-Southeast on Thursday night.  After losing their first contest with the Grenadiers back on Nov. 16 (148-101), the Pomeroys were able to bounce back in the second meeting between the two schools.

A sour spot for the Pomeroys this year has been team rebounding.  In Thursday's matchup, SMWC was able to outrebound IU-Southeast in total rebounds 62-40, including a 19-11 edge in offensive boards.  The Pomeroys were also able to make 10 more field goals than the Grenadiers, shooting 43.8% for the game.

Five Pomeroys registered double-digit performances.  Brittney Shaner (17 pts., 10 reb.) and Chelsea Weaver (10 pts., 11 reb.) each posted a double-double.  Whitney Allen chipped in 14 points, Sierra Lopez added 11 points, and Brandi McDaniel finished with 12 points.  Hailee Rittinger came down with a team-high 13 rebounds along with five points.

With the win, the Pomeroys have won three of their last four games.  They look to continue the winning streak after the Christmas holiday when they travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. and take part in the SportONE Shootout hosted by Indiana Tech.  The Pomeroys will face the host Warriors on Friday, Dec. 28 at 8 p.m. and Trine University on Saturday, Dec. 29 at noon.
