Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College head basketball coach Deanna Bradley announced a new addition to the Pomeroy basketball team.  On Friday, March 14, Elizabeth Rains signed a letter of intent to join the Pomeroys for the 2014-15 season.

Rains is currently a senior at Tri High School in Straughn, Ind.  The 5-foot-9 power forward was a four-year letterwinner in basketball and a three-year varsity captain for the Titans.  She was a two-time Tri-Eastern Conference Honorable Mention selection and won the team’s Mental Attitude Award her senior year.  She suffered an ACL injury during her senior season that sidelined her for 12 games, but was able to return and helped guide her team to an IHSAA Class A sectional championship.  Rains also holds her high school’s single season rebound record (218) and single game rebound record (28).

“Elizabeth will really help us in the post next season once she recovers completely from her surgery,” said Bradley.  “She is a good athlete who works very hard and we are very excited and fortunate to have her.”

Jeff Miller, head girls basketball coach at Tri High School is also pleased about Rains’ opportunity at SMWC.  “I think it’s great that Elizabeth is getting to extend her basketball career,” said Miller.  “I’ll always remember her as a hard worker.”

Rains is the daughter of Richey and Shannon Rains and plans to major in criminology at SMWC.
