Shaner named USCAA Player of the Week

SMWC senior basketball player Brittney Shaner was named the USCAA Women’s Division I Player of the Week, the national office announced on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
Over the past week, Shaner averaged 24 points, 6.6 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 3.6 steals for the Pomeroys. She broke the school all-time individual scoring record on Jan. 12 against Indiana Tech at the SportONE Shootout tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind. She currently has 1,756 career points with eleven regular season games left to go. The previous record was set by Brooke Griffith-Langford in February of 2002. She finished her career with 1,695 points.
Shaner also broke the all-time scoring record in steals in her last game against UC-Clermont. Her five steals in that game surpassed Chelsey Barron’s previous record of 213 career steals. Shaner currently has 217 steals in her career and leads the team with 44 this season.
Currently, Shaner is ranked second overall in the USCAA Women’s Division I in total points (342) and points per game (21.4). This is the third time she has earned this honor in her career and first of the season for the Pomeroys.
