Syracuse, N.Y. – The SMWC cross country team came in sixth place overall at the USCAA National Cross Country Championships on Friday morning. The field consisted of 30 schools, with 17 schools having a full team of five or more runners. Temperatures for the race were in the mid-30’s with light snow on the ground at Drumlins Country Club.
St. Louis, Mo. – The SMWC cross country team ran a strong race on Saturday, placing fourth out of seven teams at the St. Louis Fall Classic. The meet was hosted by the St. Louis College of Pharmacy at Forest Park.
Wilmington, Ohio. – The SMWC cross country team took part in a 34 team field at the newly named #JennaStrong Fall Classic in Wilmington on Friday. The race was named in memory of Wilmington College cross country runner Jenna Partlette, who collapsed during a race on Aug. 31st and passed away three days later. At an emotional event for many who participated in the five-kilometer race, SMWC finished in 29th place as a team.
South Jacksonville, Ill. – For the second time in school history, the SMWC cross country team came away with a first place finish in a regular season meet, winning the Illinois College Invitational on Saturday. Logan Fry set a school record in the six-kilometer race and four Pomeroys set personal-best records.
Louisville, Ky. – Due to heavy rain that occurred four minutes before the end of the five-kilometer race at Tom Sawyer State Park on Saturday, the meet was unable to be timed and scored correctly. The SMWC cross country team did compete; unfortunately no timed results were available at the end of the race.
Bloomington, Ind. – The SMWC cross country team was one of 26 Indiana schools competing at the Indiana Intercollegiate meet at Indiana University Golf Course on Friday afternoon. The meet was ran and scored in two divisions: large and small school. As a team, SMWC placed 14th out of 18 teams in the small school division.
Grand Rapids, Mich. – Led by Logan Fry, each member of the SMWC cross country team earned season-best times at the Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday morning. Competing with some of the best cross country teams in the Midwest, the Pomeroys ran well as a team, with each runner improving in their race times.
Hanover, Ind. – The SMWC cross country team earned an eighth place team finish at the Madison Kiwanis Invitational over the weekend. The Pomeroys finished with 223 points in the nine team field that featured some of the best Midwest’s best NCAA Division III teams.
Franklin, Ind. – The SMWC cross country team started off the 2013 season on the right foot, securing a fourth place finish at the Sodexo Grizzly Invitational on Saturday morning. The Pomeroys finished with a total of 111 points, one point shy of Transylvania University’s third place finish. In the eight team field, the host Franklin College won the women’s meet with an impressive 59 points and placed three runners in the top-fifteen individually.
After a runner-up finish a year ago at the USCAA National Championships, the Pomeroy cross country team has their sights set on having another successful season in hopes of bringing home a national title for the third time in the past five seasons. Since the program began in 2009, SMWC has finished no lower than third place at the national meet.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College head cross country coach Danelle Readinger announced a new addition to the Pomeroy cross country team. On Thursday, May 16, Sarah Wichman signed a letter of intent to join the Pomeroys for the 2013 season.
