Fry sets school record as Pomeroys win Illinois College Invite

South Jacksonville, Ill. – For the second time in school history, the SMWC cross country team came away with a first place finish in a regular season meet, winning the Illinois College Invitational on Saturday. Logan Fry set a school record in the six-kilometer race and four Pomeroys set personal-best records.
Fry paced the Pomeroys and finished with a time of 23:12, a new school record. She finished in fourth place overall of 61 total runners and set a personal-best time. Alongside Fry, Erin Harnett (25:26), Sarah Hudson (26:22), and Corianna Frederick (26:35) all ran personal-best times for SMWC. Harnett came in 10th place, Hudson in 22nd place, and Frederick in 25th place. Sarah Wichman was the Pomeroy’s third-best runner and crossed the finish line at 25:38 and came in 14th place. Kelsey Wright (27:43) and Stephanie Garringer (29:35) also ran well for SMWC, crossing the finish line in 30th and 35th place.
SMWC won the meet with a team score of 57 points. Knox College was runner-up with 66 points, followed by host Illinois College with 77 points. University of Lindenwood-Belleville, Maryville University, Benedictine University-Springfield, and Robert Morris University-Springfield rounded out the field.
The Pomeroy cross country team will return to action on Friday, Oct. 18 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio and take part in the Wilmington College Fall Classic. The women’s race is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.
