Engle third, Pomeroys fifth at Rose-Hulman Invite

Terre Haute, Ind. – Led by Sloane Engle's third place finish, the SMWC golf team turned in a fifth place performance at the Rose-Hulman Invitational over the weekend at Rea Park Golf Course. In the two-day match, the Pomeroys shot a team score of 702, one stroke away from a fourth place finish.  Hanover College won the Invitational with a 671, four strokes better than host Rose-Hulman.

Engle led the Pomeroys on both days.  She carded an 83 on Saturday and an 82 on Sunday, giving her a total of 165 and a third place finish overall of 55 golfers.  Engle was two strokes shy of being a medalist with the top individual score.  Kelsey Fuqua was SMWC’s second-best performer of the weekend.  She shot a combined 172, placing her 14th individually.  Morgan Patterson shot four strokes better on Sunday (86), earning a combined 176 on the weekend.  Abby Abel and Shelby French also shot well and had stretches of very good golf.   

The Pomeroy golf team will be back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational in Marion, Ind.  The two-day match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Friday.
