Pomeroys shutout at Hanover

Sept. 28, 2013

Hanover, Ind. - The SMWC soccer team traveled to Hanover College to take on the Panthers, a team now 7-1-1 and fresh off a 2-0 win over Capital University, at that time ranked #2 in the Great Lakes Region of NCAA DIII.  It was a lesson, with the Pomeroys coming away on the wrong end of a 9-0 score.

The Panthers opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a goal by Erin Hancock and, though the Pomeroys played some good soccer in the half, powered their way to a 4-0 halftime lead on two goals by Hannah Barker and one by Anna Cornacchione. Hanover was able to double the Woods’ possession, giving them chances to find runners coming through the Pomeroy defense.

The first 22 minutes of the second half were played without either team scoring, but the Panthers then found Tricia Walsh on a long ball, and she was able to get around Georgie Macy to finish and open another run of scoring. Four more goals followed, with Hanover’s Chandler Turner scoring two.

The Pomeroy’s record is now 3-3 and face cross-town rival Rose-Hulman at home on Tuesday.
