The Pomeroy softball team split their first home doubleheader of the season against the Inferno of Alverno College (Wisc.) on Saturday afternoon. The first game resulted in a 4-1 victory for the Pomeroys, but they dropped the nightcap by a final score of 13-11. Due to unplayable field conditions at the SMWC softball field, the games were moved to the Miss America Softball Complex in Terre Haute.

In the nightcap, the Inferno were able to put eight runs across in the final inning, giving them an 13-11 comeback victory over the Pomeroys. Although the Pomeroy pitching struggled in this game, (allowing 13 runs with 13 hits), the bats for SMWC were not silent. The Pomeroys combined for 11 runs, 20 hits, and 10 left on base. Highlights were Melana Minning going 3-for-4 with her second home run on the season. Kelsey Rosselli also had a great hitting game, going 4-for-5, and tacking on two doubles which gives her 12 for the season. Kim Strattman, Shelby Barnett, Painter, and Turner combined for multiple hits in this game.
Coach Rodger’s thoughts on the doubleheader: “I thought offensively we have shown that we can and will fight back no matter the score. That shows a lot of determination and heart that is in this team to be competitive. Defensively there really wasn’t anything too wrong; we saw some good things but we also saw some weaknesses we need to work on during this next week in preparation for Oakland City, Brescia University, and Principia College”
The Pomeroys return to action at Oakland City on Monday, March 25. Game time is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. (EST) start.
