Rachel J. Leslie, Vice President for External Relations, holds a Master of Leadership Development degree from SMWC and a B.S. degree in Speech Communication Public Relations and Journalism from Indiana State University. She is a graduate of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Executive Association Chamber University and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute of Organizational Management.
As Vice President for External Relations, Rachel Leslie has responsibility for developing strategic external relationships and growth opportunities at the local, state and national levels. Leslie has oversight of the Community Leadership Council, corporate and governmental affairs, and strategic planning to advance the reputation and recognition of the College. While at SMWC, Leslie led efforts to develop the Pomeroy Wellness Program partnership with Better Health Wabash Valley, securing nearly $200,000 in funding from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation. She created a partnership strategy to successfully start-up the SMWC nursing program and co-authored the plan for the Wabash Valley Leadership Institute collaboration between SMWC and the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to joining SMWC, Leslie served in various roles over eight years with the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, culminating as Executive Vice President. Responsibilities included strategic planning and budget development, human resource management, program development, events coordination, marketing and communications, and membership development.
Leslie has been honored as one of the best Chamber professionals under 40 years old by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, a Rising Star by Junior Achievement of the Wabash Valley, a Graduate of the Last Decade by the Indiana State University Alumni Association, an Athena International Honoree, a Paul Harris Fellow and most recently a recipient of the Top 12 Under 40 in Terre Haute. She continues to serve on a large number of community and professional boards and committees, which include the United Way of the Wabash Valley, Vigo County Education Foundation, Rural Health Innovation Collaborative, Hamilton Center, Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, the Terre Haute International Airport Authority, and more.
