Magic, music and comedy are coming to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). The Music and Theatre Department at The Woods presents William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” on February 28, 2013 through March 3, 2013 at the Cecilian Auditorium.

How long does it take to compose a song? For John McIntyre, associate professor of music at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, two weeks is plenty of time. McIntyre was asked by James Chesterson, president of the Terre Haute Community Band (THCB) last spring to compose a new arrangement of “Back Home Again in Indiana” for a special “Year of the River” performance, which took place January 27, 2013, at Indiana State University.

This year marks the 27th annual celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. On February 6, 2013, thousands of sports educators, coaches, athletic directors, recreation directors, association members, sponsors, students, and parents across the country will show their support of the Day and of this year's theme, "Girls in Sports, An Investment in the Future."

For the fourth year, SMWC participates in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to help low- to moderate-income (generally, $49,000 and below) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Through VITA, which is a national program, certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country.

Colorful and bold are just two words to describe Katelyn Duke’s art exhibit. Duke, a senior from Marshall, Ill., recently exhibited her works at the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Art Gallery. On display were works from her freshman to her current senior year.

Nine members of the Pomeroy soccer team represented Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College at the annual National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Convention held at the Convention Center in Indianapolis, Ind. on Thursday, January 17, 2013.

It took ten years and ten months – a new record has finally been broken by one player on the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) basketball team. On Friday, December 28, 2012, Brittney Shaner became the all-time individual leading scorer in SMWC basketball history. She surpassed the mark during the game against Indiana Tech at the SportONE Shootout tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Swearing off instruments, Six Appeal uses a cappella singing to span decades of classic oldies, current chart toppers, and catchy original tunes. Six Appeal will share their distinctive style at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on January 10, 2012, at 8 p.m., in the Cecilian Auditorium.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College presents “Animal Farm” by the National Players, as the next installment of its esteemed Four-Star Series of events. National Players, the nation’s longest-running classical touring company, will perform its unique version of George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” on January 16, 2012, in the Cecilian Auditorium on campus at 7 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.
