The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) Class of 1964, with over 50 of their alums at Reunion this year, celebrated the weekend by reaching their goal of $1 million in giving to the College over the past year. In the history of the College, a class has never reached that amount over the course of a year until now.

When graduates complete the education program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC), they leave ready to educate, inspire and mold the young minds in their community. A perfect example of this is Kathy Campbell, of Eaton, Ohio, who graduated from SMWC in 2002. Campbell left The Woods ready to aspire higher, and her accomplishments since have demonstrated her dedication to her students. Campbell received the Hoosier Early Childhood Higher Education award at the annual Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children (IAEYC) conference this spring in Indianapolis, Ind.

Dottie King, Ph.D., president of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College named Rachel Leslie as chief external relations officer at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) effective July 1, 2014. In this senior leadership role, Leslie will serve on the president’s cabinet.

Preparing students for careers where they can make an immediate impact is the priority at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). The College recently announced that the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has acknowledged that its Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management program has renewal of alignment with SHRM’s “HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates.” SMWC is one of only two Indiana colleges to meet the SHRM guidelines.

The core principal of Lemonade Day is to provide every youth the opportunity to be an entrepreneur. Local youth and the community are invited to participate in a national lemonade stand event on May 31, 2014.

As a women’s college, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is an expert in providing a nurturing environment where young women can try new things, persevere through setbacks and see that strength of character comes when you give something another try. Summer camps at SMWC build a foundation for a successful life. The summer camps at SMWC are designed to develop life skills, instill confidence and foster leadership skills. The week of June 23, SMWC is offering three summer camps designed specifically for junior high girls who want to aspire higher.

One of the principles that Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) instills in its graduates is the commitment to service. Students are encouraged to volunteer their time to others in the spirit of giving in many ways at The Woods. This conviction develops in our students and stays with them long after they graduate. Vicki Barrett, 2001 graduate of SMWC, who embodies this value, recently received the Female Volunteer of the Year award from Junior Achievement of the Wabash Valley, Inc. at their annual dinner.
