Registrations are now open for academic and athletic summer camps at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC), each one promising fun and hands-on learning for kids.

There are seven camps available for girls and boys, grades 2-12. Back by popular demand are the equestrian camps for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders, and new this year is a drum camp sponsored by Vic Firth, Pintech, Paiste and Regal Tip. During this hands-on camp, music styles including rock, funk, Latin, jazz, Afro Cuban, Brazilian, Rudimental and improv will be covered. Students will learn from faculty who have performed all over the United States and Canada with national acts on Billboard Top 100.

Two athletic camps are available — cross country and volleyball — as well as other academic camps such as music theatre, photography and nursing. During the nursing camp, students will have the chance to visit the Rural Health Innovation Collaboration (RHIC) Simulation Center in Terre Haute and participate in an ambulance simulation, among other hands-on activities.

True to SMWC’s history as a women’s college and its continued commitment to women’s education, two camps are being offered only to girls: The Oakley Academy Environmental Science Camp and the TWIST- STEMsational Camp sponsored by Duke Energy Foundation for young women who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers. TWIST, which stands for Today’s Women in STEM Tomorrow, is an exciting, hands-on exploration of STEM for girls in grades 6-8.

By attending summer camp at The Woods, girls and boys will learn leadership skills, make new friends, discover new interests and build self-esteem in a beautiful environment, the College said.
