Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) Chorale and Madrigals present their annual Christmas concert on Sun., Dec. 7, 2014 at 3 p.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. This year’s concert is titled “An American Noel” and features choral works originating from various regions of North America.

“This concert will remind us all of the diversity of our great country, offering people Christmas tunes with which they may be familiar, but also introducing them to pieces that are a part of the fabric of our society which they may have never encountered,” states Director of Choirs Michael Boswell.

Boswell explains that the concert includes a set of Appalachian lullabies, a set of pieces from the Northeastern U.S. that were written during the Colonial era, a set of pieces from the American Southwest, a set of African-American spirituals and one piece that originated in Canada with the Native American Huron/Wendat tribe which includes Native American flute.

The Chorale and Madrigals have performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and other locations through the United States as well as Austria, Canada, France, Germany and Italy.

“I sometimes think we forget how blessed we are to have quality musical performances provided by our very own students in a place as physically and acoustically beautiful as the Church of the Immaculate Conception,” states Boswell. “And all for free!”

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Director of Choirs Michael Boswell at 812-535-5017.
