At Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, traditions abound. Yet, none quite like the tradition of the annual Equine Holiday Ride that took place December 7, 2010. The seniors, faculty, staff and special guests of the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Department of Equine Studies ride majestic horses sang Christmas carols as they journey across the campus. Students and their horses were decorated in holiday garb. The public and the campus community are welcome to enjoy the sound of jingle bells, clip-clop of the horses hooves and Christmas carols to celebrate the season.

“The annual ride is a traditional way for our seniors to thank the campus for supporting them for four years while spreading Christmas cheer”, said Stable Manager, Angie McMillian.

The Mari Hulman George School of Equine Studies, established in 1989 at the College is the only equine studies program in Indiana, and one of only 20 in the U.S. to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in equine studies. Three majors are available: Equine Studies (General), Equine Training and Instruction, and Equine Business Management. For more information, call 812-535-5106 or visit www.smwc.edu.
