Verizon Groundbreaking celebration

The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College campus welcomes the addition of a Verizon Wireless cell tower. The groundbreaking for the tower behind Hulman Hall took place on November 1, 2010 at 1:30 pm.

“The consistency of coverage has been a challenge for the campus community,” said Dottie King, Ph.D., interim president of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. “We appreciate the diligence of Verizon and our staff in meeting the needs of our students, faculty, staff and visitors.”

The tower expands Verizon Wireless voice and 3G data coverage for the campus as well as for some residents in West Terre Haute. It will strengthen coverage ensuring the community and visitors have access to the latest wireless technology.

“Our customers rely on their wireless devices for virtually all of their communication needs,” said John Granby, president, Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. “The most advanced device is only as good as the network it runs on. That’s why we aggressively invest in our Indiana network to increase coverage and capacity for our customers and continue to raise the bar in network reliability.”

Completion of the project will be 6-8 weeks.
