Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College soccer and cross-country teams head to post-season play in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournaments.

Entering the competition as the eighth seed, the soccer team begins the tournament Friday, November 5, 2010 at 11:30 a.m hosted by Vermont Technical College at Essex Junction, Vermont. SMWC will square off against top seeded number one University of Maine.

Led by Head Coach Michael Aycock, the Pomeroys compiled 6 wins, 5 losses, and two draws in the season. The team outscored their opponents 28-24.

Forward Erin Pugh (Terre Haute, Ind.) leads SMWC scorers with 10 goals and 3 assists in 13 matches this year.

In the 2009-10 season, the team received a bid to the tournament and defeated the defending champions, Southern Virginia University, in the first round, won through to the title match, and lost in the final to Marygrove College.

Pugh and Goalkeeper April Baranowski (Arlington Heights, Ill.) were named to last year’s All-Tournament Team.

The cross-country team heads to New Hampshire for their race on Friday (Nov.5) as they defend their national championship title. The team runs at New Hampshire Tech Institute in Concord, New Hampshire at 11a.m. Head Coach Danelle Readinger reports that the Pomeroys are currently in the top five competing teams.
