Bugs: A Musical Play

On Nov. 29, 2012, “Bugz” will invade the Ivy Tech Community College’s Terre Haute, Ind., auditorium. Don’t worry, these bugs won’t bite, but they will entertain.

Directed by education students from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC), second graders from Dixie Bee Elementary School will sing life into John Higgins’ “Bugz,” a musical play for young voices.

“With the experience of assisting in directing and producing ‘Bugz,’ teacher candidates are gaining knowledge and skills in how to integrate the arts into the curriculum – all while focusing on the value of the arts for all children,” said Sandra Chappell, education professor at SMWC. She co-teaches ED 303 with Tim Moss, Dixie Bee’s second grade teacher and the director of “Bugz.”

The curtain goes up on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. Dixie Bee students will enjoy the performance during the school day, while the public can attend the event for free in the evening.

A class project for both Dixie Bee and SMWC students, “Bugz” tells the tale of a picnic gone awry when an uninvited guest arrives. Putting theory into practice, SMWC students enrolled in ED 303: Music, Movement and the Arts will assist with the production. For more information about show time, call or email Tim Moss at (812) 462-4445.
