Each spring, The Woods Sustainability Club at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) makes it a priority to help preserve the Wabashiki Fish and Wildlife Area through their initiative, Operation: Wabashiki. For the seventh year, student volunteers will return to the Wabash River banks in a clean-up effort along Highway 40 in West Terre Haute, Ind., on April 8, 2017 from 9 a.m. - noon.

“The Wabashiki is one of this community's treasured natural environments,” said Amanda Philips, president of the SMWC Sustainability Club and biology major. “This natural wetland is very educational and is great for recreational activities. In order to enjoy it, we must maintain it.”

The ten-member club invites Indiana State University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Ivy Tech and Harrison College students to participate. The public is also welcome to join in the efforts. Volunteers will meet at Dewy Point. A limited number of work gloves will be available. For more information, email aphillips2(at)
