SMWC Volunteers Clean Up Wabashiki
April 1st, 2014 | SMWC
Each spring, The Woods Sustainability Club at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) makes it their mission to spend a day working to preserve the Wabashiki Wetlands through their initiative, Operation: Wabashiki. For the fourth year, student volunteers will put on their gloves for the wetland clean-up along Highway 40 in West Terre Haute, Ind.
“Clean-up efforts like Operation: Wabashiki beautify our environment, bring our campus and local community together and help to preserve the wetlands that a lot of animals call home,” states Kasia Wichrowska, international SMWC business administration major and member of the Sustainability Club. “Sadly, each year, there is more trash. Our goal is to work together to make positive changes to the community and the environment.”
The Woods Sustainability Club extended invitations to other colleges, high schools and groups in town whose main focus is to be sustainable to participate. The public is also welcome to join in the efforts. Safety glasses, appropriate shoes and other protective ware are suggested. Coffee and snacks will be provided.
