On Jan. 21, 2012, the student senate of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College enlightened and engaged the student body during the first annual student leadership summit. As “Leaders Under Construction,” the event’s theme, students explored different management styles, debated issues in leadership and developed effective tactics for bringing people together. The day wrapped up with a keynote address about building strong foundations from Kimberly LaGrange, Prime Resources, Inc., of Terre Haute, Ind.

As student senate, we strongly believe that the cultivation of leadership skills, as well as providing opportunities to expand those skills, will aid in developing leaders for today and in the future,” the event’s organizers stated. The workshops included personal and organizational leadership, how to lead a discussion without stealing a show, everyday leadership and an etiquette lunch.
