Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College announces that two soccer standouts, Jordan Bray and Joy Jakaitis, of Terre Haute North High School signed letters of intent to accept soccer scholarships with the Pomeroys.

Jordan Bray has excelled both on the field and in the classroom, winning awards for both, including the prestigious Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Scholarship at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. A top defending and midfield player, she has captained Terre Haute Flyers club teams and challenged herself to travel and play on premier teams at Center Grove as well. By her senior year at North, she was named North’s Most Valuable Player and All-Conference in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference, traditionally a tough selection for Terre Haute players to crack. Her recognition as a Saint Mother Theodore Guerin scholar comes from both her academic successes and citizenship, with volunteer work including the Terre Haute Tribune-Star Christmas Basket program.

Jakaitis was a key defensive player for the Patriots for four years and many more years on Terre Haute Flyers teams. Her skill and vision also led to her collecting 10 goals and 8 assists in the 2009-2011 campaigns and a series of team awards such as Most Versatile Player. Her quickness and speed of play make her an excellent college prospect. More than this, she is the kind of citizen and student that Saint Mary-of-the- Woods College values, having distinguished herself working with Habitat for Humanity and with Chinese cultural events, even helping tutor English as a second language. Adopted from Nanjing, China, she will realize a dream this summer, travelling to her birthplace to share her experiences with high school English students.

Coach Mike Aycock offered high praise for the talent and potential that Bray and Jakaitis bring to the Pomeroys.

“These two represent a big step forward for us, and rank near the top of all graduating seniors in the Wabash Valley,” Aycock said. “Jordan Bray is such a technically polished player and athlete, and Joy Jakaitis brings so much defensive skill and quickness, that I’m certain they will both contribute right away. They are both good enough athletes and soccer players, wherever they might be on the field, to make us better as a team.”
