Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and Girl Scouts of Central Indiana initiated their partnership through the Lt. Governor’s Leadership Luncheon at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis on Tuesday, November 13, 2013. SMWC sponsored the luncheon, which honored Girl Scouts of Central Indiana.
SMWC and Girl Scouts of Central Indiana are a natural partnership, with both organizations encouraging and empowering young women and instilling a sense of pride within future women leaders.
“We believe our partnership with Girls Scouts of Central Indiana will allow Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College the opportunity to further showcase the importance of helping young ladies have the confidence to be strong leaders in the world,” said SMWC President Dottie King.
At the luncheon, King spoke to nearly 700 attendees about the importance of empowering young women to be leaders in the community. She also shared how Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College continues to educate and encourage students to have confidence and courage, to give back, to make a difference and to aspire higher in their personal and professional lives.
Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann introduced the four women honorees who live by the Girl Scout mission and exemplify the values of superior leadership: CFP President and owner of Bedel Financial Consulting, Inc., Elaine Bedel for Confidence; Executive Director/Founder of GLAM, Inc., Shanel Poole for Courage; Rabbi Emerita of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, Rabbi Sandy Eisenberg Sasso for Character; and Chairman of the O’Bannon Publishing Company and former first lady of the state, Judy O’Bannon for Making the World a Better Place.
This is the 6th year for the Indiana Lieutenant Governor’s Leadership Luncheon. The luncheon surpassed last year’s dollar amount raised, $244,000, by bringing in over $257,000 for the day’s event. The funds raised at the luncheon will help Girl Scouts of Central Indiana achieve its mission of teaching leadership skills by fostering courage, confidence and character in girls.
