COVID-19 Update: March 23, 2020

COVID-19 Updates | 03.23.2020

Today, Governor Eric Holcomb joined a growing number of public officials instructing our communities to stay-at-home in order to halt the spread of COVID-19. Beginning Wednesday, March 25 through April 7, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College will comply with the order to keep people home as much as possible and minimize the person-to-person contact that has fueled this global pandemic.

The governor’s order is very consistent with what Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College has already been doing. Our faculty and students have successfully transitioned to online for the rest of the semester. We are so grateful to all those who have helped make this transition a reality, by quickly and carefully pivoting.

To be consistent with the state’s order, we must do everything we can to ensure social distancing by reducing staffing and access to campus. However, this order will not affect our ability to keep campus operations running through online instruction and as we move to working remotely.

SMWC Employees

We are transitioning employees to work at home. Employees will work remotely with the exception of a handful of individuals in essential jobs, who will be informed by their supervisors. All employees will continue to be paid through this time.

As there will be limited access to campus facilities, all special access requests must be made through security.

Residential Students

All residential students must accelerate their moving plans as soon as possible. Students must coordinate move-out procedures with the Office of Student Life. For those students who are unable to move out immediately, the College will coordinate a later date to retrieve personal belongings.

You can help prevent transmission by staying home as much as possible while we clamp down on this virus. We encourage you to use your technologies to stay connected to your colleagues, professors and each other through this time.

Please continue to pray for our community, the state, nation and each other as together we deal with and embrace our collective responsibility to curb the spread of this virus.
