Serving as the Deputy General Counsel and Ethics Officer for Gov. Eric Holcomb, Cynthia Carrasco is a busy woman. However, that means she is an influential one. Carrasco, also a member of the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) Board of Trustees, was honored as a Woman of Influence by the Indianapolis Business Journal on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
Dottie L. King, Ph.D., president of SMWC, congratulated Carrasco for the honor.
“Cyndi is a deeply valued member of the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College board of trustees, and she displays the values of the College through her active leadership. We are fortunate to have her expertise and guidance as we navigate the challenges facing higher education today,” King said.
As Deputy General Counsel, she handles executive orders, legislation and contracts. Before working with Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, she was the first female inspector general for the state under then-governor Mike Pence.
Working with the Legislature, she helped establish the state’s Office of Administrative Law Proceedings. She has also been managing the legal issues that have arisen due to the pandemic.
She sites her dad, who died in 2001, as being her role model. To give back and be a mentor for others, she volunteers at the IU McKinney School of Law to help aspiring lawyers.
David Thomas, general counsel of SMWC, said he is glad to know Carrasco. He formerly served as inspector general for the state.
“Cyndi Carrasco is one of the rising stars in Indianapolis and I am happy to know her and have worked with her,” he said. “It gives me equal pleasure to know she is one of our SMWC trustees. She was a great leader and ran our office of inspector general, always moving us forward and delivering great results. I’ll watch her career with great interest.”
Carrasco received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at El Paso and a law degree from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law. She lives in Indianapolis with her husband, Robert, and 7-year-old daughter, Sarah.
