Designed to assist those who already have an undergraduate degree, the Transition to Teach program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College will prepare you to make the switch from your career to the classroom.
The transition to teach (P-3) program at SMWC is designed as a short, yet intensive program to prepare professionals to teach preschool through grade three. Our Transition to Teaching programs provide needed flexibility to fit your schedule. Throughout the program, students will gain knowledge in literacy development, instructional methods and principles of teaching in inclusive settings. With a curriculum of 24 credit hours, including six credit hours of clinical experiences, you’ll be fully equipped to take new ideas and skills into the classroom.

Are there admission requirements?
- All Alternate/Transition to Teaching Programs require completion of the following:
- Program Coursework
- Gateway Process: Alternate Route
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited postsecondary educational institution with a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale; or
- Both a baccalaureate degree from an accredited postsecondary educational institution with a grade point average of at least 2.50 on a 4.0 point scale, and five (5) years of professional experience; or
- Both a baccalaureate degree from an accredited postsecondary educational institution, and proof of passing state approved content area examination(s) in the subject area if the GPA is lower than 2.5.
