I view myself as an emerging art therapist prepared to hold sacred, safe healing space for others. For me, art therapy is a deeply personal and transformative experience. I experienced a sudden tragic and traumatic loss days before I started the program at SMWC. Art therapy has been my saving grace. I am a witness to the medicinal power of the creative process and wonders of depth psychology. For me, art therapy work is soul work.
Themes of construction, deconstruction, and arrangement show up in my work. Perhaps these are influencers of years as a commercial interior design practitioner and educator. Personal integration and spiritual journey themes also appear in my art. I like to work on intuitive process paintings starting with quick random brush movements. I then let the work incubate to sense what emerges before continuing. My artist identity matures as I practice letting go of the ego and invite mystery and soul to speak.
