The Global Leadership Institute (GLI) of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) will hold its first Global Leadership Institute Conference (GLIC) on Friday, April 21, beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding at 3 p.m. EDT. GLIC 2023 will be held virtually with presenters and panelists from around the world.
Eric Hubbard, MLD, assistant professor of leadership at SMWC and conference chair, is enthusiastic about this first conference. “The theme for this inaugural conference, Leading global innovation through crisis, showcases the tremendous partnerships that SMWC’s Global Leadership Institute has proudly forged with world-renowned leadership scholars and practitioners dedicated to understanding the complexities of global leadership through partnerships and collaboration. The Global Leadership Institute is proud to bring these diverse leaders together for a time of deep thought and meaningful, informed conversation for the benefit of conference attendees.”
The GLIC 2023 keynote speaker is Mark E. Mendenhall, Ph.D., an internationally renowned and recognized scholar in global leadership and international human resource management. He is a pioneer in expatriate adjustment or the adaptation of an expatriate to the workplace or social domains with a foreign culture. His presentation, “What is ‘global?’ What is ‘leadership?’ And what is ‘global leadership?’” will focus on the differing definitions of “global leadership” and clarify some of the definitional confusion.
Other speakers include Magdalena María de las Mercedes Barreiro Riofrío, Ph.D., Yulia Mast, Ph.D., Donald L. Cassell, Jr., M.Div. and Jennie Walker, Ph.D., SHRM-CP. Panel moderators will include members of the GLI team, Kimberly La Comba, Ph.D., director of the Ph.D. in Global Leadership program at SMWC, Dan Hiltz, Ph.D. and Hubbard.
GLIC offers an opportunity for academics, practitioners and policymakers to unlock the power of a Community of Practice (CoP) by learning about best practices from peers and validating approaches to solving complex problems.
