Introducing the new Marketing and Communications Intern

Blog | 05.24.2024

By Dylan McGrath, digital marketing major

Hello, my name is Dylan McGrath and I am currently a summer intern for The Office of Marketing Communications at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). I grew up in Casey, Illinois, which is only about 40 minutes away from campus. I have grown up driving past SMWC signs to campus my whole life. During my junior year of high school, The Woods was not on my radar. That is until I was offered to play under Blaine Powell, head sprint football coach. My love for football has only grown since I was a kid. Getting the opportunity to play the sport I love and gain a top-notch education is a huge blessing.

The family-like atmosphere at The Woods was most welcoming when I first arrived. I vividly remember driving onto The Avenue for the first time, knowing I made it home. Everyone is friendly and always willing to help. I am majoring in Digital Marketing and, with a minor in Graphic Design. As I enter my sophomore year, I’m looking forward to learning the ins and outs of marketing, content creation and graphic design.  After college, I want to pursue a career in Digital Marketing, focusing more on the athletic aspect of the field. My goal with my degree is to follow in my grandmother’s footsteps. She currently does athletic photography and graphic design for a Division One college.

After just a year at SMWC, I’ve learned that it’s easy to get involved. I enjoy photographing SMWC Athletics and competing for the powerlifting club. I am excited to work in this environment, learn a lot and build relationships with great people.

Dylan McGrath is a current freshman at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College majoring in digital marketing. Originally from Casey, Illinois, Dylan has always had a love for football, which is one factor that brought him to The Woods. Along with being on the SMWC Sprint Football team, he is a member of the SMWC Powerlifting Club. After earning his degree, Dylan plans to follow in his grandmother’s footsteps by pursuing a career in athletic photography. In his free time, you can usually find Dylan hanging out on campus or taking photos for SMWC Athletics and the Office of Marketing and Communications.
