Have you ever wondered what it’s like to pursue a career in health and wellness? A unique concept in health and wellness is that several careers fall under this category. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) has various degree options to help you make a good choice. Take a look at the many paths you can take to have a career impacting health and wellness.

1. Nursing
As a nursing student at SMWC, you will be prepared to assume a role in professional nursing or advance to graduate education. Our nursing programs utilize effective skills in communication and professionalism, as well as promote holistic health to instill well-rounded experiences for students.

2. Paramedic to BSN (PM-BSN)
Launched in 2022, the paramedic to BSN program at SMWC allows individuals to expand their healthcare skills beyond paramedic science. As a well-known online program, the PM-BSN program enables paramedic professionals to earn their bachelor’s degree while continuing to serve in healthcare.

3. Kinesiology
With a degree in kinesiology from SMWC, you’ll develop a deep understanding of the human body, which is necessary when working in health and wellness. In addition to hands-on experience and learning skills that you’ll use daily, this degree will allow you to assist clients after completion.

4. Addictions Counseling
To be an addictions counselor, one must have compassion and skills in understanding. These are two fundamentals that are taught in the SMWC Addictions Counseling program. With a Woods degree in addictions counseling, you will not only be prepared with skills to serve clients and their families well, but you will gain skills in critical thinking and flexibility.

5. Myoskeletal Massage Therapy
SMWC’s associate’s program in myoskeletal massage therapy will prepare you for your licensure exam. By having hands-on experiences through conducting massage clinics, working with clients one-on-one and completing internships, you’ll have the confidence to provide exceptional care to clients. This can also be added as a minor for someone majoring in another health and wellness program.

6. Psychology
Whether you’re enrolled online or in-person, you will learn how to collect, analyze and apply data to human behavior with a psychology degree from SMWC. The versatility of psychology will add value to any major you pair it with — such as education, biology or nursing, making a great pair for a career in health and wellness.

7. Biology
With a degree in biology, the possibilities are endless. In addition to the science field, biology can help enhance your career in health and wellness as a nurse or public health professional. Whether you earn your bachelor’s degree in biology or choose it as a minor, SMWC’s biology program provides personalized, hands-on experience conducting labs and field research.

8. Pre-Art Therapy
Art methods have been proven to calm the mind often and put the body at ease. A pre-art therapy degree will help you develop skills as you continue your journey to be an art therapist. With the intent to become an art therapist, you will have opportunities to help patients in various settings, including nursing homes, after-school programs, art classes and more.
