SMWC Senior Spotlight: Alexis Richardson

Blog | 04.03.2025

Name: Alexis Richardson
Major: Education: K-Grade 6/Mild Intervention
Hometown: Dana, Indiana

1. Why did you choose to earn your degree at SMWC?
I chose to earn my degree from SMWC because when I visited in Spring 2020, I fell in love with Saint Mother Theodore Guerin’s life journey in developing this school from one small log cabin. I also love the small class sizes and the beautiful scenery of The Woods.

2. Why did you choose your major?
I have wanted to be an elementary school teacher since I was 3-years-old. I have always loved working with small children and witnessing their “ah-ha” moment when they understand something after working so hard to figure it out. I love watching my students grow and learn new things.

3. What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the Education Department Student Lounge in Hulman Hall. I love being able to sit there with my classmates and work together on lesson planning and group projects.

4. What have you been involved in (student clubs and organizations, sports teams, etc.) during your time at SMWC?
I was involved in Student Activities Committee and Psychology Club my freshman year. I have also been involved in several volunteer opportunities, including the 2024 Alternative Spring Break Trip to New Orleans, Louisiana, where I helped reconstruct homes that were damaged during hurricane season.

5. What is a favorite memory you have from your Woods experience?
Overall, I believe my favorite memory from The Woods was participating in the Color Run and enjoying a cake shake afterwards with my best friend during my freshman year.

6. How do you plan to stay connected to SMWC after graduating?
I hope to be able to visit during Homecoming and continue to volunteer with the school. I also hope I will be able to give back to The Woods in any way I can in the future.
