Eligibility Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, human services, social work or other related fields OR bachelor’s degree in progress at SMWC with a C or better in PS 111 General Psychology
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 / 4.0 or higher on any undergraduate work
- High-speed internet access for the duration of the program
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening in order to participate in the internship courses
- State regulations may prohibit licensure for individuals with a criminal history of violence or any crime that has a direct bearing on the ability to practice competently. Applicants are responsible for verifying eligibility with the state they wish to be licensed in prior to beginning the program.
Application Requirements
To apply for the program, please submit the following:
- Completed online application.
- Official college transcripts sent directly to us from the college or university you attended.
- An application letter clearly demonstrating: 1) significant passion for a career in this field of study, 2) general familiarity with the key concepts related to addictions counseling, and 3) a plan for application of skills and content knowledge to a related career after completing the certificate.
- Current resume.
- Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can assess your professional or academic experience.
Additional Requirements for International Applicants
- College transcripts. Course-by-course transcript evaluations, translated in English and converted to a US grading scale, must be requested by WES, World Education Services, wes.org, or ECE, Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc, ece.org.
- Official TOEFL scores (We require a minimum score of 62 for the internet based test and 500 on the paper based test). Other English proficiency tests may be accepted and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Applications are processed upon receipt and acceptance letters are mailed within 30 days. All application materials should be submitted to:
