The Master of Leadership Development is a one-year, 36-credit hour graduate program. All students must complete the following required courses and choose from three concentrations: not-for-profit leadership, organizational leadership or sports leadership.

Concentration: Not-for-Profit Leadership

The Not-for-Profit Leadership concentration is intended to help you enhance your leadership skills in any not-for-profit organization. You will learn how to work as an integral part of the organization by building relationships with business partners, providing motivation for success and helping the organization reach its highest potential. A strong framework of ethics and critical thinking skills put you a step ahead of the rest.

Through this concentration, you will be able to:

  • Understand not-for-profit organizations and how to work within them to maximize success in fulfilling the organization’s mission.
  • Provide visionary leadership to support strategic planning that balances continuity and change.
  • Facilitate the exchange of ideas, goods and services in an ethical manner to satisfy the needs of diverse stakeholders.

Concentration: Organizational Leadership

The Organizational Leadership concentration is your tool to leading and managing in the for-profit business arena. It is also the key to success in an increasingly global and diverse society. Not only will you be getting the grounding in business and leadership that you need, but you will learn how to implement that knowledge in an ethical way and use critical thinking to work through challenges in the workplace.

Through this concentration, you will be able to:

  • Understand organizational systems and how to work within them to maximize success in fulfilling the organization’s mission.
  • Manage financial information with ethical accountability.
  • Use conflict resolution and negotiation skills to promote a productive environment.
  • Provide visionary leadership to support strategic planning that balances continuity and change.

Concentration: Sports Leadership

The Sports Leadership concentration enhances your leadership skills for any sports-related career. Covering both the essentials of facility management and coaching, you will develop the skills and knowledge to lead positions in a variety of fields including sports marketing, information, wellness and fitness, and professional or intercollegiate sports teams.

Through this concentration, you will learn:

  • Principles of budgeting, finance and data analysis as it applies to the sports industry.
  • Principles of consumer engagement and the application of appropriate digital media including how to identify your target (both fans and donors) audience, determine the appropriate channel and strengthen a consumer base using branding, storytelling, social media integration and other public image strategies.
  • Ethical and legal issues in the sports industry.
  • The role of information technology on communication, organizational culture, ethics and decision-making.
  • The strategic frameworks that will articulate organizational priorities in the ever-changing nonprofit sector.
