Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is proud to announce that Dulce Chavez signed a letter of intent to accept a soccer scholarship with the Pomeroys on Monday, July 16, 2012 at SMWC.
A longtime standout at J. Sterling Morton East High School in suburban Chicago, Ill., Chavez made a name for herself as a talented and tenacious defender, compiling an impressive list of honors. She has been named Most Valuable Player for the Mustangs, was Athlete of the Month in May of 2012, and was twice named to the All-Conference Team of the West Suburban Conference, as well as to All-Sectional and All-Area teams. She has played with very successful clubs, including Eclipse Select, River Forest Rapids and FC Drive. Her FC Drive team most recently won the U18/19 division in the Kalamazoo Invitational Soccer Showcase.
Just as importantly, Chavez is also an honor student who has been awarded the Presidential Scholarship at SMWC for her academic achievements, and will be a welcome addition to the College.
Pomeroy coach Mike Aycock sees her as a perfect fit for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College: “Dulce is one of those players that you immediately want when you see her play. She is quick, very technical, but also just a fantastic competitor. She anticipates play like few high school players I have seen. Add to this that she’s a great student, has already demonstrated leadership in teams, and is a mature, well-spoken young woman, and you have a person who will make a big impact at The Woods. We’re very fortunate to have her, and I expect that she will quickly become a key player for us.”
The Pomeroys won bids to the USCAA national soccer tournament in 2009 and 2010, finishing as runners-up in 2009.
