Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Music and Theatre Department presents “Urinetown, the Musical”, February 18 – 21. Urinetown was produced on Broadway in September, 2001, by the Araca Group and Dodger Theatricals in association with TheaterDreams, Inc., and Lauren Mitchell. Music and Lyrics were by Mark Hollman and Book and Lyrics by Greg Kotis.
Don’t let the title fool you-this show is a hilarious conglomeration of every musical comedy style you’ve grown to love-all under the guise of a dystopia where a drought has caused a water shortage and all citizens must pay to in order to relieve themselves. That’s right – pay to pee.

Cast
Urinetown is directed by SMWC Theatre Director Sharon Ammen. The Musical Director is John Berst, an Equity actor and professional musician living in Bloomington, IN. SMWC Technical Director Tyler Hutcheson has designed and built the set and is stage managing the show. Costumes were designed and built by Jessica Becker and the lighting design is by Samuel D. Coquerville.
The principal characters include the romantic leads, Bobby Strong, played by Nick Slabaugh, a graduate of Rose-Hulman and Hope Cladwell, played by both Betsy Baer, a music and theatre alumna from SMWC, and Anna Buck, a freshman at ISU, majoring in Music Education. Betsy will play Hope for the evening performance on Thursday, Feb. 18 and the Saturday matinee on Feb. 20. Anna will portray Hope on the evenings of Friday and Saturday, the 19th and 20th of February, and for the matinee on Sunday the 21st.
Guest Artist Brandon Wentz, who has appeared in many SMWC shows, including The Mikado and Once Upon a Mattress, plays Officer Lockstock. He holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Georgia. His sidekick, Officer Barrel, is played by Ryan Niemiller, a professional stand-up comedian making his musical debut.
