By Emma Booher, nursing major
My name is Emma Booher, and I am from Linton, Indiana, which is about an hour South from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). I am currently a junior at The Woods majoring in nursing with a minor in healthcare administration. I came to The Woods because of the great education they offer as well as a small community feel, with great support. With the community being small, it reminds me a lot of where I’m from, and after being here for a long time, it begins to feel like home. SMWC has a great reputation for its nursing program, which also played a huge factor in the college decision-making process. Once you step foot on the campus, you begin to feel a sense of peace, as the campus is beautiful and inspiring.
Before coming to The Woods, I really liked what SMWC’s values were as well as what they stood for. What I love most about it would have to be the sense of community and support you feel when being here. Everybody knows everybody, and you just feel so welcomed. This helps you thrive as a student and athlete. The faculty here want to see you win and they help you succeed instead of watching you fail. I also love the campus in the springtime. When all the flowers/trees bloom, the campus looks absolutely gorgeous.
After earning my degree, my intentions with my degree include possibly working in an emergency room, becoming a flight nurse, a Navy nurse, a mother-baby/NICU nurse or a traveling nurse. I’ve also considered being an aesthetic nurse. Although I’m torn between options, my career goal is to pursue at least one of these jobs in the nursing field. Possibly, with my minor, I could also be a Clinical Nursing Coordinator (CNC), manager later on down the road. On campus, I am involved with SMWC InterVarsity, the Cheer team, the Volleyball team and some on-campus jobs, including working with SMWC Athletics, The Office of Advancement and The Office of Marketing and Communications.
