For military personnel and their spouses earning a college degree just became a little easier.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College announces a tuition discount for military students and spouses enrolling in its distance education program, Woods Online. Those who have served in the military will receive the discount to offer a special tuition rate of $250 per credit hour.
“[This discount is] in an effort to show the military active and military veterans our support in helping them reach their educational goals,” said Laura Hale, SMWC director of distance admission. “Our distance program is online and does not require them to be on campus. Woods Online is perfect for them – no matter where they are in the world or what they are doing.”
For the discount, students must enroll at least half time, complete the Woods Online Military Tuition Discount application, and provide a DD 214 and a marriage certificate, if applicable. The tuition discount cannot be combined with other institutional awards or scholarships.
“SMWC offers degrees and programs to help service members find gainful employment and our online program offers the flexibility they need to complete the degree,” said Darla Hopper, director of financial aid.
As a result of the College’s support of America’s military, SMWC has been named to the coveted Military Friendly Schools® list by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life.
“Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools® shows SMWC’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” said Sean Collins, vice president at Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran. “The need for education is growing and our mission is to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools.”
The 2014 Military Friendly Schools® list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus. The list is also published by G.I. Jobs.
“This recognition shows the success of the Woods Online program and our students,” Hale said. “We deeply appreciate the service of our military. We are pleased to make this opportunity available to all who seek a college degree.”
