With the anticipation of the new Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center on Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) campus, along with a new Pomeroy Wellness Program, the College welcomes Jennifer Kersey, wellness and sports marketing coordinator, to lead this effort.

Kersey will be responsible for all aspects of wellness program operations including marketing and promotion, registration, scheduling, implementation, data collection, financial management, assessment and reporting; and building and implementing on and off-campus marketing plans for SMWC sports.

As wellness and sports marketing coordinator, Kersey will administer a grant-funded community wellness initiative – the Pomeroy Wellness Program – that serves the campus population and residents of the surrounding community. She will also promote SMWC athletic programs and team sports to gain advertising and promotional revenue.

The Pomeroy Wellness Program – a partnership between Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, The Maple Center for Integrative Health and several other community organizations – is a grant of Better Health Wabash Valley. As a partner in this plan, SMWC seeks to promote a culture of health and well-being through education and activities to make a healthy lifestyle more attainable. A Pomeroy Wellness website will launch in the near future making several health and wellness resources and event information available to the public.

“The Pomeroy Wellness Program is a unique and exciting initiative for all who are involved,” states Kersey. “The goal of the grant is for the many partners of Better Health Wabash Valley to work together in a collaborative effort to bring several health and wellness opportunities to the entire western Terre Haute community. Each partner brings a different aspect of wellness, which will allow us to provide classes and events focusing on total health for the body, mind and spirit. I look forward to working with so many individuals who have the same passion of helping others live a happy and active lifestyle.”

Although only in the position a short time, Kersey has already begun to plan and implement wellness initiatives through the program. She is currently working with The Maple Center for Integrative Health and Union Hospital to provide Lifestyle Education classes for adults and children at a reduced cost. Additionally, she is working with the Vigo County School Corporation to bring opportunities to the students of western Vigo County schools and working with the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce on a family-friendly 1 mile/5K/Health & Wellness Expo.

Another goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle on SMWC campus for the staff, faculty, students and Sisters of Providence through free exercise class and various wellness opportunities. Kersey recently worked to add SMWC as a regular weekly stop for United Way’s Mobile Market, to make it easy for the campus community to purchase fresh produce and to encourage healthy living.

Kersey received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health & Safety Education from Indiana State University in 2004. She most recently worked as Risk Management Specialist for White Construction, Inc., in Clinton, Ind. Kersey has experience in managing corporate wellness programs, instructing CPR and First Aid classes, as well as conducting nutrition counseling, health assessments and exercise prescriptions. She also has extensive sales experience in the health and wellness industry.
