In the United States, 1 in 3 college students face some type of essential insecurity. In some areas of the county, up to 38% of college students are food insecure.

In a proactive attempt to ensure student access to basic needs, the Pomeroy Pantry was started in January of 2024. The Pomeroy Pantry provides food items, hygiene essentials and winter clothing to students.

Located in the Conservatory of Music, Room 201, the Pomeroy Pantry is open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday, while school is in session and over summer holiday. Students may visit the pantry and take anything needed without checking in or checking out their items.

The Pomeroy Pantry is organized by the Student Counseling & Wellness Center, largely supported by the Providence Food Pantry of West Terre Haute, and maintained by the Pomeroy Pantry Task Force. Individual donations of food, hygiene items, or clothing are always appreciated. Contact Emma Campbell at emma.campbell2@smwc.edu with donation questions or special requests.
