News | 11.16.2010

The Pomeroy basketball team played in the Marian University (Indianapolis) tournament on Friday and Saturday November 12-13, 2010. On Friday, the team faced Calumet St. Joseph who is the preseason favorite to finish in the top of their conference.

The Pomeroys found themselves down 17 points early, but managed to cut the deficit to 12 points by the end of the first half. In the second half, the Pomeroys came out more aggressive to continue to cut away at the lead. The Pomeroys continued a strong second half with crucial free throws at the end of the game, holding on for a 2 point win, 67-65.

On Saturday, the women faced Aquinas College from Michigan. The Pomeroys hoped to bounce back from a 50-point loss suffered last year from Aquinas. The Pomeroys jumped out to a quick lead but turnovers plagued them throughout the first half. With a number of turnovers, the Pomeryoys only found themselves down six points heading into halftime. The second half again proved difficult as the team just couldn’t get a handle on the ball, committing numerous unforced turnovers. The Pomeroys played even with Aquinas in the second half, falling short by only 6 points 58-64.

“While the weekend was very challenging, everyone was pleased with the accomplishments of each game. The team was also thrilled to be cheered on by several alums attending the games,” said Coach Deanna Bradley.

The team will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio on Friday to play in the Mount St. Joseph Tournament. They will play Mount St. Joseph on Friday, and then the winner/loser of the Oberlein/Spalding game on Saturday.
