On October 2, 2010 your Pomeroys hosted the Berea College Mountaineers just as the sun came out on a great afternoon for soccer. Taking control of possession early, the Woods women held onto the match for the duration, rarely giving up any possessions for Berea in the attacking third. In the end, the score line would be 7-0 in favor of the Pomeroys, with every player getting significant playing time.
Erin Pugh started the scoring in the 8th minute, taking a pass from Britt Simmerman and driving a ball high into the top right netting. It was the first of four goals for the hometown senior, the most ever scored in a single match by a Pomeroy. In the 23rd minute she struck again, this time on an assist from Bri Davis. Logan Jones would finish the first half scoring in the 40th minute on a pinpoint assist from Jessica Black.
The second half was even a little more in favor of the Pomeroys. Erin Pugh scored twice more before leaving the game, once in the 57th minute on an assist from Jessica Black and once in the 69th minute unassisted. The rest of the scoring would come from Alice Trejo Wilson, who proved herself perfectly able to find the net in traffic. Her first goal came in the 85th minute, after dribbling past the last two defenders, and her final goal came on a rebound in the 88th minute, sliding the ball low to the bottom left corner.
This brings the Pomeroys’ record to 5-4 with 4 regular season matches to go. Next up is a trip on Wednesday evening to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m.
