Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College’s R.S.V.P. Luncheon at The Woods Series engages audiences in weighty debates ranging from the struggles of equity in the workforce to creating a competitive edge in education. This fall, Good Morning America producer Mellen O’Keefe will discuss modern media’s effects on and use in education during the first speaker series of the 2011-2012 academic year. The event will be held in SMWC’s Le Fer Hall Ballroom on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, from noon to 1:30 p.m. and is open to the public for $15, including lunch.

From touring the palaces of the king of Sweden to tasting Maya Angelou’s home cooking, O’Keefe has made a significant impact in the world of broadcast media for decades. As a producer, writer and director for segments and shows on ABC News, CBS News, Barbara Walters, The Travel Channel and Oxygen Media, she has witnessed first hand the evolution of media and its effects on today’s society, including education.

“I am a person who believes educators need to be given all possible support,” said O’Keefe, who strives to enhance education with technology and media through Insideschools.org and Parents for Inclusive Education. Her unique experiences and contemporary outlook on media and education will be an eye-opening journey for all members of the Wabash Valley.

The R.S.V.P. (Resources, Strategies and Valued Partnerships) Luncheon at The Woods series strengthens and encourages valued partnerships between the community and the students, faculty and staff of SMWC by sharing resources and strategies.
