Each year, the college opens its doors to welcome back Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) alumnae to campus for Reunion. Nearly 300 alumnae from France and 26 states returned for Reunion weekend to celebrate, network and reunite with life-long friends and classmates. Reunion 2013 marked milestone celebrations for the classes ending in “3” or “8”: 1963, ’68, ’73, ’78, ’83, ’88, ’93, ’98, ’03 and ’08.
Spring at The Woods takes on a special quality of beauty and peace that served as the backdrop for this welcome home, which was a dramatic contrast to the excitement and energy inside the beloved Le Fer Hall. The May 17-19 weekend opened with fellowship and conversation. Among many activities, alums enjoyed the traditional Walk-in-the-Woods campus tours, Josette Rathbun ’85 conducted a financial seminar, class agents and secretaries discovered new ways to support the College, Marti Rumely Kuehn ’69 displayed original artwork and President Dottie King, Ph.D. spoke on SMWC’s vision for the future.
The celebration collimated at the Reunion Banquet with the National Alumnae Board presenting its prestigious, annual awards. Tracy Johnson Schier ’62 received the Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Award and Yvonne Shepard ’68 received the Frances Rumely award.
During the weekend, 100 of the reunion year classes have made a gift to SMWC in honor of their reunion. Overall these generous classes contributed over $133,000 to the College.
