Celebrating Excellence in Global Leadership: Arete Journal Announces Contribution of Excellence Winners at SMWC Event

The Αρετή Arete Journal of Excellence in Global Leadership at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is proud to announce the winners of the prestigious Contribution of Excellence Award. This accolade recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of global leadership, highlighting innovative research, impactful insights and exemplary dedication to advancing leadership practices worldwide. Arete is published in collaboration with the Global Leadership Institute, SMWC and the Private Academic Library Network (PALNI).

Winners:

  • Kristen MerchantAssociate Director,
    Union & Student Activities and Director, LEAD program,
    at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Indiana
    • Publication Title: Leadership Development Interventions to Reduce Imposter Phenomenon in the STEM Fields in Minorities
    • Summary: There is a significant lack of diversity in the Science,  Technology, Engineering,   and   Mathematics(STEM)fields.   Evidence shows that lack of representation can feed into feelings of imposter phenomenon which in turn influences leadership qualities. An argument is made that by providing leadership development training to minorities in science,   technology,   engineering,   and mathematics fields, confidence will be boosted, feelings of imposter phenomenon will be reduced, and thus these students will be retained.

    • Publication Title: Global Leadership Adaptability Through Servant Leadership and Cultural Humility: A Conceptual Framework
    • Summary: Global leaders must be resilient, relevant, and vigilant. They must be prepared to address crises while simultaneously fostering stability and progress for the survival of humanity. Their transformative actions should inspire effective change. The proposed conceptual framework integrates servant leadership and cultural humility perspectives and fosters a global leadership mindset. This mindset enhances leadership adaptability to address contemporary challenges.
    • Marianna is in the Ph.D. in Global Leadership program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
  • Phylis Lan Lin, Ph.D.Professor Emerita,
    University of Indianapolis (Indiana)

These distinguished winners have demonstrated exceptional expertise and commitment to the field of global leadership. Their published works in the Arete Journal of Excellence in Global Leadership offer groundbreaking perspectives and valuable contributions that will shape the future of leadership practices.  External reviewers used the following criteria: 1) Global Impact, 2) Cross-disciplinary, 3) Relevance, 4) Thought-provoking, 5) Innovativeness, 6) Cultural Awareness, and 7) Diversity.  The committee was comprised of members from the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI), previous C.O.E. winners, and Missouri State University.    

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, PALNI, and the Global Leadership Institute congratulate the winners and extend heartfelt appreciation for their dedication to excellence.
