“Those who can, do AND teach.” That’s what Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) Department Chair and Associate Professor of Graphic Design, Rebecca Andrews wants to stress at the Art Gallery’s first exhibition of the 2014-15 academic year. The exhibit will feature work of the department of text and image faculty and will be on display through Dec. 5, 2014.
“It shows current students what we do professionally,” states Andrews. “It is important for them to realize that we continue to work in the field not only because it keeps us up-to-date with current trends but also because we are passionate about the subjects and mediums that we teach.”
The faculty exhibit their work in the Art Gallery every other year, offering the College community a glimpse of the work by the faculty.
With pieces by Andrews, as well as Cynthia Phillips-Sabla, assistant professor of art and design and Elaine Yaw, assistant professor of media studies, the exhibit debuted with an opening reception on Wed., Nov. 12, in which SMWC faculty, staff, students and community members experienced the pieces on display.
The pieces showcase the faculty work in photography, graphic design, painting and web design.
The SMWC Art Gallery is located in Hulman Hall, room 130. Admission is free and open to the public. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, contact Rebecca Andrews, chair of the department of text and image, at (812) 535-5141 or .
