The SMWC Western Team kicked off the first two shows of the season on Saturday, October 23, 2010. The team traveled to Gifford, Illinois where Eastern Illinois University (EIU) and University of Illinois (U of I) hosted the horse shows at Gordyville USA. The Pomeroy Western team consists of 16 riders; half of them being freshman. Each rider rode exceptionally well, but not enough to clinch the High Point title. Purdue, Ball State, and Purdue Calumet tied for first place with 18 points. SMWC placed sixth with 11 points in the first show. In the second show, senior Morgyn Purdy was tied in points with Emily Dean who rides for Purdue. The riders were required to compete in a ride-off on two horses of equal level. Each rider brought a lot of talent to the competition, but an early bobble with the horse Purdy rode made the decision. Purdy was the Reserve High Point Rider and as a team SMWC ended up Reserve High Point Team with 17 points. Ball State was High Point Team with 23 points.
The next two Western shows will be this Saturday, October 30th at SMWC. The first show begins at 9 AM and the second at 1 PM. Please come out and support your Western Team! Individual results are listed below:
