SMWC ranked among best nursing programs in Wabash Valley

News | 03.11.2022

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is proud to announce they are listed among the best master’s nursing programs nationally in US News & World Report: Best Nursing Schools: Master’s in 2022.

SMWC was also ranked in the Nursing Schools Almanac for 2021 in The 30 Best Nursing Schools in Indiana and The 100 Best Nursing Schools in the Great Lakes.

Janet Clark, provost/vice president for academic affairs said of the designations, “We are very proud of the recognition of our programs nationally. It’s a testament to the work of dedicated and experienced faculty who have created exceptional programs to offer our nursing students.  Besides a strong curriculum, the commitment to student learning and success by everyone associated with the program is notable as evidenced in our high pass rates and employer placements.”

Since 2015, SMWC has been empowering an abundance of nursing students. With the peaked interest in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, the College began to expand the programs in the nursing field. The master’s of science in nursing (MSN)/family nurse practitioner (FNP) program was established in 2018. The FNP program gives students the opportunity to get real-life experience through small class sizes, in-depth discussions and prepare for their future career as a family nurse practitioner.

“We are very pleased to see the graduate nursing program grow and look forward to having SMWC-prepared FNPs practicing in our community,” stated Felicia Stewart, DNP, FNP-C, RN-BC, FNP program director and associate professor of nursing.

SMWC graduate nursing students can have one-on-one learning experiences to evaluate patients, diagnose and write prescriptions with faculty members having real-world experience. The undergraduate nursing program has an NCLEX pass rate of 93% and a 100% placement rate. It has been a great addition to SMWC.

“We are all very proud of the success and the accomplishments of our students. They have consistently demonstrated compassion, excellent clinical skills, and leadership. They continue to be an asset healthcare workforce,” said Marcia Miller, Ph.D., RN and chair of the nursing department.

Both programs are accepting applications for Fall 2022 admission.
