Name: Allison Cloutier
Major: Healthcare Administration and Human Resource Management
Hometown: Terre Haute, Indiana
1. Why did you choose to earn your degree at SMWC?
I chose SMWC because students are seen as people and not just a number, as well as the small class sizes and reserved nature of the campus’ location.
2. Why did you choose your major?
I always wanted to work in the healthcare field, but could never decide what exactly I wanted to do. I always liked the administrative aspect of busy work and organization. When I realized that SMWC had Healthcare Administration, it was like a lightbulb moment. The HR management aspect came from wanting to be both a company advocate and a pivotal leader in the administration realm.
3. What is your favorite place on campus?
One of my favorite places on campus is the Rooney Center. I spend most of my day in Rooney due to my campus jobs. I enjoy the Woods Café and being able to see Donna every day and enjoy a coffee. I also find myself often in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) as it is a comfortable and calming environment to sit and work on homework.
4. What have you been involved in (student clubs and organizations, sports teams, etc.) during your time at SMWC?
In previous years, I was in the Student Nurse Association (SNA), Student Activities Committee (SAC) and a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Terre Haute. This year, I have continued my membership in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and was elected vice president for the 2024-2025 school year. I also was elected to be the senior class treasurer this year. Aside from organizations, I am a student ambassador in the Office of Admissions, where I give tours to prospective students and their families, among other tasks. Lastly, this is my second semester of being an academic peer in the LRC.
5. What is a favorite memory you have from your Woods experience?
Ring day by far! When I went on my campus tour as an incoming freshman and learned about what the Ring was and how special Ring Day is, I was excited for my time to come when I could participate in the tradition. It was such a special ceremony, and I was thrilled that my family was able to attend and be a part of such a special day with me.
6. How do you plan to stay connected to SMWC after graduating?
Once I graduate in May, I plan to stay at SMWC and get my MBA. Recently, I have been contemplating getting a double master’s degree with an MBA and MLD, I am excited to see what the future holds! Once I graduate from grad school, I will visit the campus often to see all the faculty and staff I have built such a strong connection with throughout my college experience.
