Hannah Harvey

Name: Hannah Harvey
Major: Environmental Science with minors in chemistry and mathematics
Hometown: Terre Haute, Indiana

1. Why did you choose to earn your degree at SMWC?
I found the traditions of SMWC so special and touching, such as the Acorn Ceremony and Oak Leaf Ceremony, Ring Day, the blessing of the Guerin Christmas tree, and many more. Now, I’ve even created some traditions of my own.

2. Why did you choose your major?
During my high school years, I began noticing more and more news headlines about the environmental status of our planet. I became increasingly passionate about wanting to do anything in my power to protect the Earth and my own community.

3. What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the Sunken Garden. Every spring, I see students enjoying nature and others’ company, and it’s such a beautiful thing. At the end of my freshman year, all my friends and I sat in the Sunken Garden and spent time reminiscing about the past year and wondering what all our futures had in store for us.

4. What have you been involved in (student clubs and organizations, sports teams, etc.) during your time at SMWC?

  • President of Service31 Student Organization
  • Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Scholar Cohort
  • Member of Leadership Council
  • Chorale
  • Madrigals
  • Reunion Student Worker

5. What is a favorite memory you have from your Woods experience?
It’s hard to pick a favorite memory after the countless great ones I’ve made here! One of the best memories I have at The Woods is holding hands with my best friends and singing The Ring Song in a circle with our other choir members. It makes me feel so connected to the rest of the choir and all of the past Woodsies who have sung that song together.

6. How do you plan to stay connected to SMWC after graduating?
I plan to attend Reunions and Homecomings. I will also continue attending sprint football games and choir concerts to support the students and the programs.
