Name: Hope Gillaspie
Major: Equine Business Management

1. Why did you choose to earn your degree at SMWC?
I chose SMWC because of its small class size and location. I have enjoyed being close to home and having the ability to know everyone throughout the equine program. The equine program with Angie McMillin and Sara Schulz is truly what the deciding factor was. They are both great people to learn from and be around!
2. Why did you choose your major?
I chose to pursue an equine degree because of my interest in the equine industry. I started riding horses when I was 5 years old and have continued to own and show horses to this day.
3. What is your favorite place on campus?
The horse barns!
4. What have you been involved in (student clubs and organizations, sports teams, etc.) during your time at SMWC?
- SMWC Western Equestrian Team
- SMWC Huntseat Equestrian Team
- SMWC Collegiate Horseman’s Association
5. What is a favorite memory you have from your Woods experience?
My favorite memories include traveling with my teammates on the equestrian teams. I have had the opportunity each year to show or travel with the team to IHSA nationals in Pennsylvania, Kentucky and North Carolina. Each year has been a great time showing horses and a ton of fun with my teammates!
6. How do you plan to stay connected to SMWC after graduating?
I plan to stay connected with my teammates and classmates. My senior class of equine majors is certainly a close and strong group that I believe will stay connected. We were also on the equestrian teams together, so we spent many hours and weekends with one another. We share so many memories that make up our SMWC experience.
